- Writes advertising copy for use by publication or broadcast media
to promote sale of goods and services.
- Develops, writes and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs,
proposals, instruction books, catalogs and related technical and administrative
publications concerned with work methods and procedures, installation,
operation and maintenance.
- Consults with sales media and marketing representatives to obtain
information on product or service and discuss style and length of
advertising copy.
- Obtains additional background and current development information
through research and interview.
- Reviews advertising trends, consumer surveys and other data regarding
marketing of specific and related goods and services to formulate
presentation approach.
- Writes preliminary draft of copy and sends to other impacted stakeholders
for approval.
- Corrects and revises copy as necessary.
- Writes articles, bulletins, sales letters, speeches and other related
informative and promotional material.
- Enters information into computer to prepare advertising copy, using
Microsoft Word and Quark.
- When writing technical documentation, observes production, developmental and
experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
- Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals,
reports and other material to become familiar with product technologies
and production methods.
- Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data
relative to operation, maintenance and service.
- Studies blueprints, flow charts, sketches, drawings, parts lists,
specifications, mock ups and product samples to integrate and delineate
technology, operating procedure and production sequence and detail.
- Organizes material and completes writing assignments according to
set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.
- Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes
in scope, format, content and methods of reproduction and binding.
- Maintains records and files of technical writing work and revisions.
- Must be able to do some layout work in Quark.
- Arrange for duplication and distribution of material when producing
small quantity flyers and information pieces.
- May write speeches, articles and public or employee relations releases.
- College degree in writing or related humanities
and minimum of three years experience doing business or advertising
writing.
- Ability to collaborate with a group of creative
individuals to produce a finished work.
- Experience in editing own work and work of others.
- Will be required to pass an internally administered
skills test, evaluating creative, clarity and technical skills, in
order to be considered for position.
