Information Systems - IS Operations Team

Description:
This is a cross-functional team in which there are specific individual specialties, while the team activity is characterized by the necessity to provide overlap for the purposes of adequate coverage to meet corporate needs. Specialties within the team include Database Administration, Networking and Server specialties, Hardware specialties, Operating System specialties, Help Desk administration, RF and Telco specialties and electro-mechanical management of hardware systems. Collaboratively, the team is responsible for the following duties:

  • Manage computer operations to ensure rapid, accurate and efficient data processing of organization's workload by use of VAX and PC-based systems.
  • Plan and develop policies and procedures for carrying out computer operations.
  • Recommend insights that contribute to overall company strategic management.
  • Build systems capability which reflects the highest state of technical sophistication consistent with the corporation's needs and budget.
  • Ensure security of company's data base.
  • Meet with teams to discuss progress of work, resolve problems and ensure that standards for quality and quantity of work are met.
  • Pursue technical development to ensure team is capable of meeting current and future needs.
  • Review daily logs and reports to detect recurring slowdowns or errors, using computer terminal.
  • Consult with software and hardware vendors and other establishment workers to solve problems impeding computer processing.
  • Meet with users to determine quality of service and identify needs.
  • Assure corporation makes maximum use of the general system by providing for the education and training of the principal users.
  • Meet with appropriate teams or leadership members to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and service to users.
  • Evaluate new software and hardware to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing software and hardware.
  • Evaluate proposed data processing projects to assess adequacy of existing hardware, and recommends purchase of equipment.
  • Monitor expenditures.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of tape library.
Qualifications:
  • Two to four years technical/vocational training; specific technical certifications may be requested.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to accomplish group goals.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for success.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
  • Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Depending on area of specialty needed, this job may require ability to lift and carry up
    to 70 pounds on a regular basis.
